Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty in New York Retrial, Acquitted on One Charge

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul whose downfall helped ignite the #MeToo movement, was found guilty Wednesday of sexually assaulting production assistant Mimi Haley in 2006 but acquitted of a separate 2006 assault allegation by former model Kaja Sokola.

A New York jury delivered the split verdict after a week of deliberations in Weinstein’s retrial, following the overturning of his 2020 rape conviction last year.

The panel was unable to reach a decision on a third charge involving actress Jessica Mann. Weinstein, 73, maintains the encounters were consensual.

His retrial began in April and featured emotional testimony from the three accusers. The case, once again, cast a spotlight on Weinstein’s long history of alleged abuse and his symbolic role in the cultural reckoning around sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.
